Welcome to Yamagata!
"A Shangri-La in Asia" "Another Japan Beyond the Mountains"
Yamagata Prefecture is located on the Sea of Japan side of the Tohoku region. It is surrounded by mountains that are counted among the 100 most famous mountains in Japan, including Zao, Gassan, Chokai, Azuma, Iide, and Asahi, and the "mother river" Mogami River flows through the Yonezawa, Yamagata, and Shinjo basins that stretch from the south and the Shonai Plain. It is a region blessed with beautiful nature.
Isabella Bird, a British travel writer who visited Tohoku in the 19th century, described it as "the Shangri-La of Asia," and Edwin Reischauer, the U.S. ambassador to Japan in the 1960s, described Yamagata as "another Japan beyond the mountains." This site allows you to make advance reservations for Yamagata experience menus, leisure activities, and tours, and offers a variety of outdoor experiences in the great outdoors colored by the four seasons, agricultural experiences, and experiences that allow you to experience history and culture. Why not go on a trip to find a memorable experience, such as the frost-covered trees of Zao, the spiritual and cultural experiences of Dewa Sanzan, or adventure experiences?
